ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Facility Operations Manager, the Facility Operator is responsible for the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre, a multi-use recreation facility, including the arena, aquatics centre, and surrounding grounds. This position supports the safety, functionality, and cleanliness of the facility while ensuring an exceptional experience for all users. Operators must be team-oriented, technically skilled, and committed to providing excellent customer service.

- Perform daily inspections and maintenance of mechanical and building systems.
- Install, maintain, and resurface arena ice using specialized equipment.
- Conduct water quality tests and apply chemicals as needed to maintain pool standards.
- Maintain compliance with health and safety standards including WHMIS and safe chemical handling.
- Document maintenance logs, incident reports, and equipment usage.
- Assist with facility opening/closing and emergency response procedures.
- Conduct regular custodial duties in public areas, washrooms, locker rooms, and common spaces.
- Ensure cleanliness, hygiene, and safety across all facility areas.
- Report hazards, equipment malfunctions, and maintenance issues promptly.
- Maintain accurate records related to pool chemistry, refrigeration logs, facility usage, and supplies.
- Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Class 5 Driver’s License (Required)
- WHMIS Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- First Aid & CPR Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Certified Pool Operator (or willingness to obtain)
- Arena Operator Level 1 Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Building Maintenance Level 1 (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to lift up to 80 lbs and perform physical work safely
- Clear Police Criminal Record & Vulnerable Sector Check (Required)
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
- Experience in facility operations, mechanical systems, or building maintenance preferred
- Customer service experience required; recreation facility experience an asset
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Comfortable working in various environments, including cold arenas, confined spaces, and at heights
Working Conditions
- Rotating shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Physically demanding work involving lifting, standing, and operating machinery
- Exposure to loud noise, chemical substances, and temperature fluctuations
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required when necessary
- Work includes rooftop and high-access areas with proper safety training
Terms and Conditions of Employment
- Part-time permanent
- Approximately 16-24 hours a week
- Salary: Starting at $20.30 per hour
