About the Role
Aquatic Lifeguards are integral members of a team responsible for supervising and ensuring the safety of facility patrons by proactively preventing and responding to injuries, incidents, and emergencies. The successful candidate will strive to deliver the highest quality aquatic experience to our members and guests in our fast-paced, growing environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative lifeguard responsibilities in accordance with NLS training standards as well as LCLC policies and procedures and demonstrates effective lifeguarding techniques.
- Prevent injury and incidents by providing effective scanning and education. In an emergency, responds appropriately with communication / rescue response / first aid treatment / and activation of appropriate emergency services.
- Carries out opening and closing procedures. Set up, clean up, and securely stores all equipment as determined by prearranged scheduling.
- Ensure strict adherence to all aquatic procedures and policies at a high standard.
- Conduct accurate and timely on-deck pool chemistry tests.
- Continuously monitor the cleanliness and safety of the aquatic center and equipment, (including change rooms), promptly addressing any unclean or potential safety risks with the appropriate departments.
- Uphold standards set by the certifying body to the satisfaction of the employer.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience
- Proven ability to work independently and as an integral part of a team.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and judgment.
- Experience working in fast-paced environments.
- Ability to establish and maintain respectful, cooperative, and professional relationships with colleagues and the community.
- Experience working with diverse demographics.
Qualifications (to be maintained as a condition of employment)
- National Lifeguard Service Award (NLS) – Pool Option.
- Standard First Aid.
- WHMIS certification.
- Must provide a satisfactory Police Criminal Records Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check.
Desirable Qualifications
- Water Safety Instructors (WSI).
- AED Responder.
- Lifesaving Instructor.
- National Lifeguard Service Instructor (NLSI – Pool).
Terms of Employment and Working Conditions
- Wage: Starting at $17.82/ hour
- Part-Time, shifts according to a preset schedule as determined by supervisor.
- Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Operating hours- Monday- Thursday (6:00am-9:30pm), Friday (6:00am- 8:30pm), Saturday- Sunday (7:00am- 8:30pm)
- Exposure to a loud, warm, and busy environment.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Lifeguards must maintain the ability to demonstrate “Must See” items set forth by the appropriate standard setting / certifying body to the satisfaction of the employer at all times during employment.
- Safe lifting, carrying, and rescue techniques (use of a rescue aid in the water and coordination of rescue with a second rescuer, when possible, are required by the employer).
